Short Term Mission to Macau
From: Paul Yuan <paulyuan@gmail.com> Now that we're back it's sort of hard getting used to life here. It's much slower and I feel that my heart is still there in Macau. Please continue to pray for them as the church holds camp 16/8-21/8 for the high school students and as they have just finished camp for the younger students. Many of them are sick and tired, pray for a fast recovery and also pray for the children's hearts that they are open to Jesus. Thanks again and feel free to ask me more about Macau when we get a chance to meet again, hopefully sooner than later.
God bless.
Following is our recruiting letter and preparation before we went How can God possibly do great things through you? The answer to this question is easy; you need to make yourself willing and available to do His will. People in the Old and New Testament figured this out as a former prince turned shepherd led Israel across the Red Sea on dry land (Exodus 14), a cowardly judge defeated a vast Midianite army (Judges 6,7) with only 300 soldiers, and a group of fishermen, tax collectors, and other commoners spread the gospel throughout the known world (Acts). God might not be calling you to grab your sling and take down a Philistine giant today (1 Samuel 17), so what does He want you to do?
Macau, located near off the coast of China and near Hong Kong, is
where MOT will be partnering with a local church to reach out to
local jr. high and high school students through classes held at the
church and weekend activities. As teachers of Conversational English
and other subjects, you will have the opportunity to build personal
relationships with your students in class and invite them to church
activities on weekends. Although we often take our lives in America
for granted, it is a unique tool that can be used to generate
interest in God. George Sya Quick Facts on MOT & Macau
What: The Macau Outreach Team (MOT) 2004 will consist of a
team of mature Christians going to Macau to teach Conversational
English (and possibly other subjects) to jr. high and high school
students at a church for the month of July. The church will have its
own youth also in the class to build up relationships with the
non-Christian students.
Where: Macau is a former Portuguese colony on the coast of
Mainland China approximately 40 miles away from Hong Kong. Best
known in Asia for gambling and prostitution, Macau is currently a
Special Administrative Region (SAR, like Hong Kong) of China until
2049, where it will be fully integrated back. Unlike Mainland China,
religious freedom and civil rights are observed so one can share the
gospel freely.
Cost: The estimated cost of this trip is $1800/person. This
includes airfare, housing, some meals, and travel insurance. Each
member is responsible to raise this amount, while the excess
monetary support raise by one member may be used to compensate for
the shortage of another. Sample prayer letters will be provided for
members to write their own letters to other believers/churches for
both prayer and financial support. For CFC church members that are
currently enrolled in college full-time, CFC is willing to support
up to $1000/student.
Teaching Conversational English: If you can speak English,
you will be able to teach it. A portion of the missions training
will be spent demonstrating teaching techniques. You will have
translators/teaching assistants that can speak either English or
Mandarin to you during the lessons (local dialect is Cantonese).
Evangelism Opportunities: In addition to the Lifestyle
evangelism and lessons incorporating Christian themes for the month
of July, you will have chances to share your testimony (how you
became a Christian, why God is important in your life, etc.) outside
of class during free time or other church-sponsored activities.
Church: The US church sponsoring this trip is Chinese for
Christ Church of San Jose. The church in Macau is called the Macau
Evangelical Church (MEC). MOT will be teaching classes at one or two
of its branches in the main part of Macau.
Application Requirements: All team members must turn in the
completed application by the due date (3/31/04) and must have
completed high school prior to the trip date. What happens after class ends: On the last day of class, the Christian students will share the gospel (using “The 4 Spiritual Laws” booklet) to the non-Christian students. MEC will also hold a week-long gospel camp in the first week of August and invite all the students to it. During the gospel camp, the students will enjoy fun activities, hear testimonies, and have a chance to accept Christ at the end. In addition, you can follow-up with your students or church members through email, instant messaging, phone, and/or future visits to Macau. Upon arrival back in the US, a day-long debriefing session will be held. More Information Regarding Macau
